  • Coastal Ecosystems Conservation Educator Workshop

    NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher

    Join the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher to pilot some new lesson plans based on conserving coastal ecosystems. These lesson plans will be added to the Coastal Ecosystems K-8 STEAM-based curriculum that is currently being developed by the NC Aquariums. This 6-hour workshop will provide participants with hands-on activities and copies of lesson plans, access to educator resources on the Aquarium website, and behind the scenes tours with keeper chats to dive deeper into topics. Lesson topics will include otters, corals, gopher frogs, and larval fish.

    Lunch will be provided by our onsite concession stand, Shark Bites. Participants will have the chance to order lunch during the morning of the workshop.

    Participants are eligible for Criteria III or renewing credits for the NC OEE Environmental Education Certification and consists of 6 contact hours that may count toward CEU credits for teachers. Please bring a reusable water bottle.

    Cost:

    • $25 for current MAMEA members

    • $40 for renewing or non-MAMEA members and includes a one-year MAMEA membership.

    Capacity:

    • Minimum of 4, maximum of 20

  • Claw & Order: Blue Crab Victims Unit

    Wednesday, June 25, 2025, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
    William & Mary Batten School & VIMS

    This teacher professional development workshop focuses on a blue crab parasite. This free workshop is best suited for middle and high school educators.

    Attendees will receive science content from Batten School & VIMS researchers, classroom tested lesson plans, tours of VIMS labs, lunch and a 1-year MAMEA membership.
